John has been employed as a firefighter in Atlantic City Fire Department since 1980. He was promoted to the rank of captain in 1994, however his true interest is in the visual arts. He paints portraits and nature scenes and sculpts both sand and stone.

He has competed at the professional level in sand sculpture competition throughout the world since 1990, winning many national and international titles:
  • 1997 International Champion Parksville B.C. Canada
  • 1998 and 2000 International Champion Jesolo, Italy
  • 1999 American Champion Fort Myers Beach, Florida
  • 1999 2nd place at the International Competition in Hardelo, France
  • 1995,1999 and 2000 North American Champion Virginia Beach, Virginia
  • 1997 and 2001 Voted 1st place by the people attending The World Sand Sculpting Championship in Harrison Hot Springs, B.C. Canada

John also organizes both professional and amateur sand sculpture events and corporate team building events. He has coordinated groups of professional sculptors to work on hugh demonstration type group carves, transforming thousands of tons of sand into works of art. His company will be building a Guinness World Record tallest sand castle for the grand opening of the Wildwood, NJ Convention Center this spring.

His work has been published in numerous periodicals and newspapers. It has been featured on the Discovery Channel, QVC Shopping Channel, CNBC, Martha Stewart Show, and The Travel Channel.

John has adapted his artistic knowledge of sand sculpture to a more permanent medium, stone. He has learned how to carve stone by attending the Marble Symposium in Marble Colorado for five years. He has sold many marble sculptures to private collectors and two of his marble sculptures are on permanent public display. One at the Atlantic County Public Library in Galloway Township N.J., and the other is dedicated to fifty-seven police and firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty. It is located in Memorial Park adjacent to the City Hall of Atlantic City N.J..
